Happy Growing!
To combat water-related issues and mitigate climate change by building a sustainable food system.
A world where sustainable agriculture empowers communities, conserves natural resources, and fosters environmental stewardship, ensuring a healthy and resilient future for all.
Born and rasied in southern Alberta, Gabrielle and Michael co-founded aquaponics world in 2018 in a pursuit for a suistanable future.
Aquaponics combines aquaculture with hydroponics to create an innovative form of agriculture. The nutrient-rich water from raising fish provides a natural fertilizer for the plants. The plants in turn help to purify the water for the fish. Compared to traditional farming, aquaponics grows six times more vegetables per square foot, uses 90% less water, and grows plants three times faster. Aquaponics produces high-quality fish protein and vegetables year-round. It also uses substantially less land, energy, and water while also minimizing chemical and fertilizer inputs used in conventional food production.
One on the most sustainable growing methods is aquaponics, as it has unlimited potential in addressing critical water related issues, food insecurity, and climate goals all around the world. We became very interested in these growing methods, but realized there were few, affordable, properly sized system designs, and no simple education roadmaps on how to understand crucial aquaponics concepts. So, in 2018 we started designing and building easy-to-use aquaponics systems that could be installed anywhere. We have primarily been building them in school to promote lifelong learning and environmental stewardship in youth.
